Frequently Asked Questions
1. What makes rugby special and what is the club philosophy on coaching?
Rugby is a unique sport that focuses on mutual respect, camaraderie and which develops bonds that last a lifetime. It is truly like no other team sport on earth! The mission of the Liberty Warriors Rugby club is to raise young people of character, to develop grit and to provide players with opportunities to play at the next level. Coaches focus on being positive and utilize uplighting affirming language to encourage our players to excel. We believe that positive encouragement is the most effective way for a player to improve their abilities.
2. My kid has never played
a contact sport before. Is that ok?
It sure is! We all started somewhere. Every year, at every age bracket, we receive players with no contact sport
experience. We intentionally tailor coaching to new players and quite literally introduce tackling from the ground up. Players will learn the safest form of tackling, starting on their knees, and working their way up. We instill
confidence and move at the player’s pace.
3. When is your season?
- We are generally a spring sport. Each age bracket (U10, U12/U14 and High
School) have different match schedules and start/end times. - U10 will start the first week of April
- U12/U14 and High School will start indoor practices the 2nd week of February
- High School will conclude their season in the last week of May, while U12/U14 will conclude theirs in the first week of June. There are additionally opportunities for players in these age brackets to compete in the summer, if they so choose.
4. When and where are practices?
Indoor practices take place at the Liberty
Launch Academy in Liberty Lake, Wa. Outdoor practices take place at the MODE Stateline Raceway in Post Falls, Idaho. Practices move outdoors in the
2nd week of March. Practices are generally in the evenings on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They are held at different times, depending on the age
bracket and daylight hours.
5. When and where are games?
Matches for the Cascade Rugby Union are held around Eastern Washington. We have home and away weekends. Matches are always held on Saturdays. A schedule for the season is posted in the schedule section. U10 and U12/U14 will play multiple matches on a given Saturday, in a jamboree format.
High School's first match will be on March 14th
U12/U14 will have their first match on March
29th
6. What is the price and what does it cover?
The price for the season depends on the age bracket your player is in. Our flag/U10 season costs approximately $100. Our U12/U14 season is approximately $275 and our high school season is approximately $300.
These fees go to cover USA Rugby dues, Rugby Washington dues, referee fees,
sports trainer fees and uniforms. Every year the Warriors are proud to sponsor players whose financial situation would otherwise prevent them from playing. Cost will NEVER be a barrier to play! Simply reach out to club administration and we'll work it out.
